Hobby Talk: Model Kit Review, MG RX-0 Unicorn Gundam ver OVA

Link to revised review here.

I'm going to post a short review on all the gunpla kit I ever built.  Plus some rating for the kit.

Now, the very first gunpla I built.  Gundam Unicorn ver OVA

Why this kit
Your very first kit is important. I decided on the Unicorn because the series is running at that time. Rule #1, watch the series, pick your favorite. And at that time, I'm really into transforming Gundam.  A transforming Unicorn, is the choice for me.

Kit Details
The Unicorn OVA kit was released in March 2010, a D1 box kit with 22 runners and 403 parts. You also get 1 sheet of dry transfer decals, 1 sheet of stickers and 1 sheet of stickers for eyes, v fins and camera lenses.  This kit is priced at RM 170.

Note: Yes, I'm one of them that jump straight into a difficult kit.  That's why my initial build was sketchy and I've recently remastered my build.

Build / Difficulty
(Score: Neutral)
The build for this kit is very interesting. Building the internal frame with the psycho frame is the highlight of this kit. The build difficulty is average. There is not that many small parts and there is not much need for lining.

I took 3 days to complete the build, with no detailing and no decals. And an additional 3 days recently to fix my first build by putting on decals, lining details and fixing some visible bad nubs.

Looks / Details
(Score: +1)
The look for this kit is awesome. It was a bit underwhelming when in Unicorn mode because of the majority white armor but by transforming it to the destroy mode, this kit looks wicked.

The psycho frame itself gives a lot of details to the kit without the need to do a lot of touch ups.

Accessories
(Score: Neutral)
This kit gets a transforming shield, a beam magnum, a hyper bazooka and 2 beam sabers. The shield is well detailed but the gun and bazooka is normal looking.  Oh, not to forget 2 additional clips for the magnum.

Articulation / Pose ability
(Score: -1)
The kit is well balanced and can stand on its own, partly thanks to the undersized backpack.  Not much bend can be achieve on the arms and legs because of a short double joint elbow and knees

Shelf presence
(Score: +1)
This kit definitely stands out on your shelf.  The bright colors from the psycho frame is a major plus.  Then again, this kit needs to be posed in destroy mode.  Unicorn mode is just too plain and does not provide enough excitement.

Bonus
(Score: +2)
There's a lot of things you can do to this kit to make it look even better.
1) Pose this kit with black light.

2) Do a LED conversion for this kit.

Summary and Rating
(Total Score: +3)
This kit is awesome out of the box and is a must have for gunpla builders.  It is reasonably priced and doesn't offer too much difficulty in building.  But this kit definitely gives you the sense of satisfaction after completion, and transformed into the destroy mode.

2) Full Armor Unicorn (2011) - Green psycho frame and a lot more weapons which adds up to be a huge kit.
3) Unicorn Banshee (2012) - Black armor with yellow psycho frame.  Weapon variation.
